Day 01 - 8:40p

We are getting ready to settle in for the night. Unfortunately, Vanessa did not have treatment today. They said her first round will be tomorrow. This was a big disappointment as it delays when we can leave and it feels like we've nearly wasted 1.5 days thus far. This is obviously a setback we didn't want. Vanessa's breathing was the worst it's been in some time today after her procedure. There were a few hours I was monitoring and getting nervous - I haven't been that nervous for her in maybe 4 years. Thankfully, she got better throughout the evening and is back to about where she was last night. I think it was the exacerbation from the central line placement this morning. She's still struggling with deep breaths, but managing.

This morning, they were able to successfully place a triple lumen central line, praise God! This will prevent her from needing a peripheral IV anywhere. In fact, the nurse in IR actually removed her IV because it was barely working.

She is also on a liquid diet right now due to her swallowing. This is something they normally do until speech evaluates her as speech is the team that clears her for something more solid. The idea is they're worried about her being weak, difficulty swallowing, and then choking. The sad thing is that speech has told us in the past that this is a mistake, weak swallowing muscles struggle harder to swallow liquids. She needs something with more viscosity than that, but speech is the only one that can clear her for that, and we will see speech tomorrow. We did not see them today.

This hospital stay has been interesting. Vanessa and I have been noticing there seems to be a missing sense of urgency in getting her treatment lined up. The staff is fine, no complaints. They're all wonderful, but it seems the wheels are spinning slower this time around and it's frustrating. Feeling better doesn't happen until 12-24 hours after the first round of plasma exchange. Sigh.

For now, we're gonna watch an episode of Ted Lasso, be a goldfish (IYKYK), and then try to get some rest.
